Ivydale's goal is to be at the heart of our neighbourhood. This has been Ivydale's role since it first opened as a community school in 1891 to serve the new houses springing up around it.
At Ivydale we believe that it takes a whole community to bring up a child. Through art, music, sport and community events, the school takes every opportunity to continue a tradition of family and neighbourhood participation. We are also linked with other schools so that our pupils can benefit from using extra facilities.
It is central to the Ivydale ethos that all children are welcome and valued. We celebrate the diversity of cultures and beliefs represented in our school.

School Council
At Ivydale we involve our pupils fully within the life of the school and have a school council made up of elected class representatives. This enables children to discusss school initiatives, make contributions to the school's development and report back to their classes. Through school council, pupils have been involved with the redesign of the playground and library, school meals and extra-curricular activities.
Homework
Each child is provided with a book bag and is expected to take this home daily and share reading with an adult. Each child has a Homework book in which class teachers set appropriate amounts of homework regularly every week. The homework reinforces or extends work that the children have carried out during the day and consists primarily of English and Mathematics which is supplemented by other subjects as required.
